Retired jute mill workers demand dues
CHATTOGRAM, May 8: About one thousand workers, employees and officers of state-owned jute mills are deprived of post-retirement provident fund, gratuity and other benefits even after five years. They said families of 992 persons who retired from Amin Jute Mills, Gul Ahmed Jute Mills, Baghdad-Dhaka Carpet Factory, Gulfra Habib Ltd, RR Jute Mills, MM Jute Mills and KFT in 2013 are yet to get their due benefits. They formed a human chain in front of Chattogram Press Club on Monday evening demanding early payment of their dues. Although there are rules of paying the dues within 30 days of retirement, the mill authorities did not pay off their dues, they said. Convener of the Retired Workers, Employees and Officers of State-owned Jute Mills Md Firoz Ahmed Chowdhury, member secretary Md Jahangir Hossain, freedom fighter Liaquat Ali Khan, and Md Mostafa spoke at the event. — Our Correspondent
