Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain directed Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) on Tuesday not to approve any private housing project situated far from the city without having various treatment plants including sewerage treatment plant (STP) of their own.
He also announced that the plot owners of Purbachal will get approval of designs of their houses within next six months.
His instruction came during a visit to Madani Avenue developed by Rajuk that stretches from American Embassy to Balu River in the east. The minister visited the private housing projects in the area.
"The private housing projects should develop various service facilities including drainage, sewerage and water supply systems under the management of the owners," he said.
The minister said these residential projects have been developed far from the capital where it is not guaranteed whether WASA (Water Supply and Sewerage Authority) will extend its service up to this area.
Rajuk has developed Purbachal as a separate and self-sufficient residential area as it is located far from the capital where the sewerage, drainage and STP facilities are ensured. The environment of the area may be affected if the same kinds of facilities are not ensured in the private housing projects, he added.
The minister informed that the works of land development and sewerage and other treatment systems will continue simultaneously.
