NILPHAMARI, Sept 01 (BSS): High officials at a meeting have discussed current progress of the acquisition process of 912 acres of land for upgrading Syedpur Airport to international standard with all modern facilities.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Nilphamari Md. Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury presided over the meeting at his conference room in the district town on Saturday afternoon.
Member (Finance) of the Civil Aviation Authority Md. Mizanur Rahman, its Member (Admin) Abul Fayez Md. Alauddin Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Deputy Director (Local Government) Md. Motaleb Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Azaharul Islam, Additional District magistrate Khondker Nahid Hasan, Major Moktadir of Syedpur Cantonment were present at the meeting and spoke, among others.
The officials concerned informed the meeting that Syedpur Airport is currently situating on 136 acres of land and operating domestic flights only.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced to upgrade Syedpur Airport to international standard in 2017.
Subsequently, a project was taken and field level authorities began process of preparing the field book for acquiring 912 acres of more land in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari district and Parbotipur upazila of Dinajpur district on April 9 this year.
Of them, 535 acres of privately-owned land, 60 acres of Khas land, 39 acres of land of Bangladesh Water Development Board, six acres of land of the Roads and Highways Department, 14 acres of land of Syedpur Cantonment and 13 acres of more Khas land will be acquired in Bangalipur union of Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari.
