Onion, ginger prices up

Prices of some vegetables and chilli witnessed a slight decline while onion and ginger prices marked rise on Friday compared to that of its last level. Maintaining a higher ceiling, fish and meat prices remained static on the day. Local Faridpuri (Haali) variety was sold at Tk 35-37 per kg at Shyambazar and Karwan Bazar wholesales and at Tk 40-44 per kg at retail markets on Thursday evening to Friday evening. Imported Indian varieties were sold at Tk 30-34 per kg based on qualities at the wholesales and at Tk 36-40 per kg at retail markets during the time. Spice trader at Shyambazar in the older part of the city, Narayan Chandra Saha said that prices of onion is fluctuating for last two and half weeks. "The price of the spice item witnessed see-saw in the growing hubs which caused the volatility. But it will be normal within few days" he said. Teasle gourd, snake gourd and sponge gourd were sold at Tk 30-35, pointed gourd, ridge gourd and long bean at Tk25-35 per kg on the day. Bitter gourd was the costliest vegetable sold at Tk55-60 per kg at different kitchen markets.
