The Cardiff International School, Dhaka (CISD), a leading English-medium school in the capital, Tuesday arranged a "Seasonal Organic Fruits Festival" to give the new generation a taste of chemical-free fruits as well as acquaint them with local fruits, reports BSS.
Principal of the school GM Nizam Uddin opened the daylong festival at the auditorium of the school at Dhanmondi. Students, teachers, officials and employees took part in the festival.
About 25 varieties of fruits including mango, blackberry, jackfruit, litchi, banana, papaya, guava, pineapple, palm, jamrul, karamcha, chalta, kamranga and water melon were displayed at the festival.
At the end of the festival, the students, teachers and staff of the school were entertained with the fruits.
Speaking on the occasion, GM Nizam Uddin said local seasonal fruits provide a large quantity of vitamins and other elements that are essential for health of the people.
"But unfortunately these fruits are being sold in the markets after being treated with formalin and other chemicals that are harmful to the human body," he said.
Mr Nizam urged all to avoid chemical-laced fruits and give attention to raise gardens of local fruits.
