Over 50pc LICT project trained youths get jobs

Over 50 per cent youthsss who are trained under Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance project got jobs in different IT institutions, reports BSS.

Leveraging ICT (LICT) for Growth, Employment and Governance is a project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology.

The project has been launched in January 2013 aiming to develop a vibrant and healthy information technology (IT) and IT-Enabled Services industry in five years by identifying the strategies, programmes and investment needed for the country to leverage ICT for economic growth and competitiveness.

Concerned sources said the objective of the project is to develop 34,000 skilled manpower for IT sector.

In the first phase, a three-month training programme was introduced to build 4,000 youths as future IT leaders.

LICT project director Rezaul Karim said among the 4,000 youths, the three-month training of 148 in first batch ended on September 10. Later, 70 of them got jobs in different IT institutions in job fair.

In the second batch, as part of the three-month training, one-month residential training began in Bangladesh Academy of Rural Development.

BCC Executive Director SM Ashraful Islam said LICT project laid emphasis on time-befitting training to building efficient youths for IT industries.

LICT project deputy director Tareq M Barkatullah said they took initiative to ensure 30 per cent participation of women in the project.
