Palak for digitised admin to make public services smooth

The government has attached priority to digitise administration to make public services smooth and transparent aiming to supplement the efforts for building "Digital Bangladesh" by 2021.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this while addressing a seminar on "National Backbone Network of Bangladesh Government" in the city on Thursday, reports BSS.
The government has brought a significant change in the public services system, he added.
Secretary of ICT Division Shyam Sundar Sikder, project director of BanglaGovNet Project Md Mahbubur Rahman, representatives of different government and non-government organisations, among others, addressed the seminar with Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) SM Ashraful Islam in the chair.
The junior minister said the government has been adopting e-Governance in order to improve public services through improved decision-making process, as well as promoting transparency and accountability of the government's course of action.
Various legal and policy framework have been developed to expedite the adoption of e-Governance in the country, he added.
Mr Palak said ICT Division has launched Development National ICT Infra-Network for Bangladesh government phase-II project involving Tk 13.33 billion to bring 17,500 government offices at the district and upazila levels under ICT network.
The project is bringing Bangladesh Secretariat, BCC, seven divisions and all districts and 485 upazila level offices of the country under WiFi coverage, he said, adding Bangladesh Secretariat and BCC have already been brought under Wifi coverage.
Addressing the seminar, Mr Mahbubur said the BanglaGovNet Project was launched in 2010 aimed at setting public network backbone for implementing e-Government.
Under the project, establishment of connectivity between 58 ministries and divisions, 222 departments and directorates and 128 offices at district and upazila levels and 31 kilometres optical cable line is at the final stage, he told the seminar.
In another function at Mymensingh, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman requested all especially the youth community to forge a strong unity and work for building Bangladesh a digital and middle income country.
The minister made the appeal while inaugurating a three-day Digital Fair-2015 here as the chief guest. The district administration organised the event at the local gymnasium.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mostakim Billah Faruqui, the inaugural function was addressed, among others, by Superintendent of Police (SP) Moinul Haque and Additional Deputy Commissioner Nasrin Jahan.
The minister said there is no alternative to a digital Bangladesh to make the country economically developed and prosperous.
He said everybody should come forward to build the digital Bangladesh for implementing the Vision-2021 for the greater interest of the nation.
The minister said the government has already set up e-service centres at Union Parishad level that help people living in remote areas getting necessary information.
