CHATTOGRAM, Jun 09: The passengers of a Regent Airways flight remained locked for an hour at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport.
The unexpected incident happened on Friday night because of the absence of airport customs officials.
The passengers later left the airport unchecked.
The passengers put blame squarely on the shoulders of the Airport Customs Department for its officials' negligence of duty.
Many said this is quite unprecedented in an airport.
The passengers of the flight termed it an utter disregard for the law of the land.
It was an act of sheer negligence of duty at a very delicate station like an international airport.
M Kamrul Islam Bachchu, a passenger, said the Regent Airways flight arrived at Chittagong airport from Doha with 170 passengers at 11:00 pm.
The flight was scheduled to arrive by 6:30 pm, but it left Doha Airport several hours later.
The plane landed at Chittagong airport more than four hours behind schedule.
As the passengers alighted from the aircraft, they remained stuck in immigration hall and were asked to stay there overnight.
The passengers were told to wait until Saturday morning as the officials responsible for checking them went home because of the delay of the flight.
Some passengers were from distant areas like Cumilla and Feni and were supposed to go home on Friday night.
Angry passengers agitated inside the immigration against the customs officials' negligence of duty, Mr Bachchu said.
An hour later, the airport authorities asked the passengers to leave the place without any customs checking, he said.
The passengers demanded an investigation into such reckless act of the airport authorities.
They also demanded that the immigration officials concerned be punished for their negligence of duty.
