State-run Power Grid Company of Bangladesh will install 400 kV high voltage transmission lines to facilitate the import of 100 MW of electricity from the Indian state of Tripura, reports UNB.
The 28-km transmission line will be built from Comilla South grid substation to Tripura board, revealed the grid operator.
In order to build the high voltage transmission line, the PGCB signed a contract Sunday with Korean contractor GS Engineering and Construction Ltd. It will cost Tk Tk986 million (Tk 98.6 crore), says the contract.
According to the contract, the GS Engineering will build the transmission line on turnkey basis in the next 10 months and hand it over to the operator.
After installation of the transmission line, the government will be able to import 100 mega watt of electricity from the Palatana power plant in Tripura.
PGCB official Md Ashraf Hossain and GS Engineering's project manager Jong Dae Lim signed the contract on behalf of their respective sides in the city.
Other officials of PGCB including its managing director Masum Al Beruni, and executive directors Tapon Kumar Roy and Mohammad Shafiqullah were present on the occasion.
Earlier on March 8, the PGCB had signed another contract with an Indian private firm-KEC International to build a 19-km long 132kV transmission line from Comilla (South) Substation to Comilla (North) Substation to connect the proposed imported electricity to the national grid.
PGCB officials said the Indian authority will build transmission lines from Palatana power plant to Indian board at their own cost.
