Philippine jobless rate declines to 7pc in April

MANILA, June 10 (Xinhua): Unemployment rate in the Philippines declined to 7 per cent in April from 7.6 per cent registered in the same period last year, local statistics agency said Tuesday.

Figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that the number of employed persons in the country rose to 38.66 million in April, from 37.01 million recorded a year ago.

PSA data showed that the Metro Manila capital region continued to have the highest unemployment rate at 10.4 per cent.

Among the unemployed persons in April, 61.7 per cent were males. Almost half or 49.8 per cent belonged to the age group 15 to 24 years.
