Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged the private entrepreneurs to supplement the government efforts to make the 'Visit Bangladesh 2016' programme successful for the development and expansion of tourism industry.
"Participation of local people in the tourism activities will have to be ensured for getting real benefits from this sector because tourism industry's success and development largely depend on them," she said in a message on the occasion of the World Tourism Day-2015 on September 27.
She said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the Parjatan Corporation in 1972 to flourish the industry and now her government put special importance on the sector to project country's heritage, culture and natural beauty before the international community by different activities under the 'Visit Bangladesh 2016' campaign programme.
The PM termed this year's theme of the day "One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities" as time befitting in the global context.
She wished all success of the World Tourism Day-2015.
