Terming Bangladesh an attractive destination for investment, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said any investment has to be made in line with the rules of the country and decision of the Board of Investment (BoI), reports UNB.
"Bangladesh is a good place for investment, but any investment has to be made in line with our rules and decisions of the Board of Investment," she said.
The Prime Minister made the observation when South Korean Ambassador Lee Yun Young met her at her office (PMO).
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said the Prime Minister mentioned that the present government is working tirelessly to ensure the basic needs of people containing the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In this connection, she said Bangladesh has now stepped on the ladder of a lower middle-income country group and it would be in the middle-income group by 2021.
"We're heading towards that direction," she added.
Sheikh Hasina also said the government has already adopted the Vision 2041 to emerge as a developed country by 2041. Stressing the need for good connectivity among the countries, she also said this is very much important for the overall economic development.
The South Korean envoy, who worked here for four years, said Bangladesh is a prospective place for Korean investment, and mentioned that his country is the number one investor in Bangladesh when it comes to RMG sector.
Mr Young said Bangladesh and Korea could cooperate with each other in the IT sector, too.
Terming Bangladesh and Korea relations as historical ones, the envoy appreciated Bangladesh's marked socio-economic progress. In the socioeconomic index, he mentioned, Bangladesh is much ahead than many other countries of the world.
PMO secretary Suraiya Begum was, among others, present on the occasion.
