PM to inaugurate DITF tomorrow

The month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair 2015 (DITF-2015), the largest and most vibrant showcasing event in the country, will begin in the city tomorrow (Thursday), reports UNB.
Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at Agargaon at 11am, said an official at the Commerce Ministry.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Commerce Ministry host the DITF every year.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry M Tajul Islam Choudhury, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, EPB Vice Chairman Shubhashish Bose and Senior Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon will also speak at the inaugural session.
In this connection, the commerce minister will brief the media about the DITF today (Wednesday) afternoon.
The fair will be held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the west side of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre till January 31.
The organisers are expecting a better response this year as the last year it could not draw as much visitors as anticipated due to political instability.
This event would project quality exportable of Bangladesh to the visitors from home and abroad.
The local producers in remote areas of rural Bangladesh who do not have financial strength to participate in international trade fairs will have the opportunity to display their products at this fair for the buyers from abroad, according to the EPB.
On the other hand, the overseas participants would have the opportunity to display their products to the consumers of Bangladesh where the domestic market of consumer goods is expanding fast, it said.
The foreign participants will also have the opportunity to display their state-of-the-art technology for the local producers and exporters.
Besides, the participants will be able to identify business contacts with prospect of entering into subsequent business negotiations.
