Port city Ghat workers lift strike

CHITTAGONG, July 4: Ghat Gudam workers in Chittagong have withdrawn their strike following fruitful negotiation with the trade body leaders.
They joined work on Saturday afternoon, a statement of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) said.
The statement said the workers held a meeting with the CCCI leaders and local MP MA Latif in the morning. It was decided that the workers would get an enhanced rate of Tk 1.00 from the current rate on a sack of 90 kg and Tk 0.50 on a sack of 50 kg.
The enhanced rates will be effective from July 1, 2015. Workers' leaders Abul Hashem, Abu Tayab and Md Idris, Sramik League leader Safar Ali and CCCI vice president Syed Jamal Ahmed, among others, were present in the meeting presided over by CCCI president Mahbubul Alam.   pankajdastider@gmail.com
