Power exhibitors outshine renewables at four fairs

Participants at the ongoing four international fairs have expressed mixed reaction to the response they have got from customers.

While foreign companies manufacturing electricity equipment are satisfied with the clients' response, others firms involved in solar, renewable and construction materials business have voiced their frustration over the orders and inquiries.   

Sales manager of Jiangsu Gold Dragon Power Co Ltd Lily Dong said: "We have got lots of enquiries from customers considering the scarcity of electricity in Bangladesh."

The Chinese company manufactures electricity generators.

"Though we did not get any order yet, we are hopeful of getting orders from the fair," Ms Dong said.

Reaction from other sectors was not so encouraging.

"Till evening Friday, we have got two or three enquiries from the clients and the same thing happened on Thursday," Ningbo OSDA Solar Co Ltd assistant manager Fahad Sikder told the FE.

"This year's response is not so good compared with last year's," he said.

CEMS (Conference and Exhibition Management Services Ltd) Global is organising four exhibitions named--13th Power Bangladesh 2014, 8th Solar Bangladesh 2014 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

The three-day-long fairs will conclude today (Saturday).

The expo focused on power generation, transmission, alternative power, solar power, energy, renewable energy, construction materials for real estate sector, its method and equipment.

These exhibitions brought together under one roof all stakeholders in power, solar, renewable power and construction materials.

CEMS international coordination manager Sharif Hussain said on Thursday around 700 people registered their name in the fair while on Friday the number was 1,200 people.

Around 10 Korean and two Sri Lankan companies are participating in the fairs for the first time, he said.

But the organiser said although the number of visitors was high last year, this time "we have got potential clients, which is very important."

Participants from Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom and the United States of America joined the fairs.

There are around 150 stalls at the fairs. The expos will remain open from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm everyday.
