President seeks Bhutan help in connectivity

President Abdul Hamid has sought Bhutan's support in enhancing connectivity within the South Asian region and beyond for the mutual benefits of the people.
The President sought the support when Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the city on Sunday, reports BSS.
The President also stressed for Bhutan's active and effective participation in sub-regional cooperation in water resources management and power-hydropower and connectivity, President's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the news agency after the meeting.
During the meeting, President Abdul Hamid recalled the role and unstinted support of the Bhutanese leaders and people to the cause of Bangladesh's liberation war in 1971.
"The early recognition to Bangladesh by Bhutan encouraged us to fight the War of Liberation," the President said.
He also recalled his working experience along India-Bhutan border during the liberation war.
In reply, Tshering Tobgay said he had a fruitful meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and expressed the hope that the cooperation between the two countries would strengthen further in the days to come.
He invited the President to visit Bhutan.
The delegation members of the Bhutanese prime minister, foreign secretary of Bangladesh and concerned secretaries of President's Office were present during the meeting.
