Prices of most of rice varieties declined at the wholesale markets in the city in last seven days which is yet to be adjusted at retail, according to the traders.
Prices of garlic and early summer vegetables also declined on Friday compared to that of its previous level due to increase in supply.
Prices of finer varieties like miniket, najirshail, medium varieties like brridhan-28, brridhan-29 (haski), paijam, kajol lata declined by Tk 2-3 per kg at the major wholesale markets in the city in last ten days.
Different qualities of briidhan-28 and 29 varieties were selling between Tk36 and 40 per kg, miniket at Tk42 and Tk45, najirshail at Tk46-50, BR-11 at Tk30-31, swarna at Tk28-30 per kg at Babu Bazar, Badamtoli, Jatrabari, Kochukhet and Mohammadpur wholesales on Friday.
Talking to the FE, proprietor of M/S Taslima Rice Agency at Babu Bazar wholesale Md Abdur Rahim said that supply from Bogra, Kustia and Jessore region increased significantly during last two weeks.
He said the price level will decline further if the political turmoil ends.
"But, the transportation cost is still much higher than that of normal days."
