Prime Bank Limited (PBL) is interested in helping treat injured and maimed protesters of the recent movement that toppled Sheikh Hasina's regime on August 05.
"Prime Bank is eager to come forward and contribute to treating injured and maimed protesters currently receiving treatment at various hospitals countrywide," said PBL chairman Tanjil Chowdhury.
The commercial bank will deliver the service as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), he told the FE on Wednesday.
However, to maintain clarity and adhere to corporate governance, the bank cannot make such contributions to any unregistered organisation or voluntary group.
"I personally believe the quickest possible way to ensure this can be a contribution to the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund in the presence of student coordinators for its proper utilisation."
"Additionally, as an executive member of the Bangladesh Association of Bankers, I will also try my level best to appeal to all banks to join this initiative," continued Mr Chowdhury.
The PBL chairman requests the interim government and student coordinators to provide guidance and clarification to this end urgently so that banks can move forward without delay.
