Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for ensuring high quality of the locally-manufactured spare parts and dye-mould with the view to boosting industrialisation in the country.

"There is a need for ensuring higher quality of locally-manufactured spare parts and dye-mould to help boost industrialisation in the country," they said at the seminar on 'Manufacturing Import Substitute Spare Parts and Dye-mould locally and role of Pilot Plant and Process Development Centre' in the city on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) organised the event at its headquarters at Dr. Qudrat-E-Khuda Road.

BCSIR Chairman Md. Faruque Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest while its members Md. Golam Rabbani and Md. Shawkat Ali were present as special guests.

Addressing the programme, Faruque Ahmed said a good number of entrepreneurs are now manufacturing spare parts locally. However, the quality of the locally-manufactured spare parts is not up to the mark, he observed.

"We (BCSIR) are prepared to extend our support to manufacture quality spare parts locally," he assured the local entrepreneurs.

Faruque Ahmed mentioned that BCSIR is enriched with adequate number of skilled personnel and modern laboratories.

The state-run agency has already developed modern boilers for use in rice mills in the country, he said.

The boilers are now being widely used by the local entrepreneurs, he added.

Representatives of various stakeholders including dye-mould manufacturers, importers, trade body leaders and other local entrepreneurs, also attended the seminar.
