Radar Project: Japan to sign grant deal today

Japan will provide 2881 million Japanese Yen in grant assistance to help Bangladesh implement a project taken for the improvement of meteorological Radar system in Dhaka and Rangpur, reports UNB.
Bangladesh and Japan will sign a grant agreement on Wednesday in this regard, said an official in the city on Tuesday.
Both the countries will also sign a document on exchange of note on the day, said the official.
Senior Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, Bangladesh, Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Chargés d'affaires (CDA) of Japanese Embassy in Dhaka Takeshi Matsunaga and JICA (Japan International Cooperation agency) Chief Representative in Dhaka Mikio Hataeda will sign the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
Bangladesh, prone to various natural disasters, has been devastated by 55 major cyclones and lost more than 0.7 million lives over the last four decades.
According to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), almost 90 percent of natural disasters caused by weather phenomena can be detected by meteorological radars.
The radars are vital to observe weather situation and make weather prediction timely, especially to alert public to be prepared to face severe weather conditions.
