The telecom regulator has given a fresh ultimatum to a defaulting gateway operator Ratul Telecom Limited to pay the outstanding bill worth Tk 970 million by July 30, BTRC officials said.
They said the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) recently sent a letter to the International Gateway operator setting the new deadline.
"We gave the last chance to pay the dues after request from the operator," a top official of the BTRC said adding it also warned of tougher action against the company if it fails to clear the dues.
Of the outstanding bill, nearly Tk 900 million is of the revenue sharing while the remaining portion is the license renewal fee.
The telecom watchdog served several notices asking the company to pay the arrears.
The official said this time the operator may lose its operating license in case it fails to comply with the last deadline.
In addition, the authorities will also take legal action including filing the criminal cases against the defaulter.
"Usually, we file case under the public demand recovery act against a defaulter," the official added.
