The country's realtors aim to train 10,000 additional professional construction workers to meet the growing demand for skilled human resources.
To this end, the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) signed an agreement with a skills development project under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Tuesday.
Executive Project Director of the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP) Mohammad Walid Hossain and REHAB President Md Wahiduzzaman signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at a ceremony held at the project office in the city.
Top officials from SICIP, REHAB Senior Vice President Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan, Vice Presidents Abdul Latif and Abdur Razzaq, and SEIP-REHAB Project Chief Coordinator Kazi Abul Kashem, were present, says a statement.
Speaking on the occasion, Walid Hossain noted that REHAB has efficiently trained nearly 21,000 workers to a satisfactory standard.
"The number of women participating in this training was unprecedented," he said, expressing hope that REHAB would continue to significantly enhance training in the construction sector in the future.
Wahiduzzaman said that REHAB has already successfully trained around 2,000 construction workers through various training institutes across the country.
"About 90 percent of them are now working abroad with different developer companies and making significant contributions to the country's economy," he added.
According to REHAB, the training will be provided to participants free of charge, and they will also receive a stipend.
Participants will undergo advanced-level training in electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing and pipe fittings, masonry and steel binding, and tiles and marble work.
