Rich urged to deposit Zakat money with govt fund

MYMENSINGH, July 12 (BSS): All rich people have been urged to deposit their Zakat money with the government Zakat fund which will be distributed among the poor people in a proper way.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman made the call while addressing a function arranged for distribution of government grants among family members of the July 10 stampede victims here this morning.

A total of 27 people were killed in the stampede during distribution of Zakat clothes in the district town on Friday morning.

The minister said the government is very much sincere to stop such tragic incidents in future. Mr Motiur said his ministry will issue a fresh circular to this effect soon.

The minister distributed Tk 10,000 to each of the families affected in the stampede.

Among others, Deputy Commissioner Mustakim Billah Faruqui and Superintendent of Police Moinul Haque were present at the function.
