River fish, chicken meat, onion prices increased last week, traders said.
Vegetable prices showed a mixed trend, sugar price increased slightly while other commodity prices remained stagnant on the day.    
River fish prices increased throughout the week amid a low catch caused by lower water flow in the rivers, traders said.
Prices of different sized river cat fish-Boail, Golsha, Tengra, Aair, Pabda, Kajoli- and other fresh water fish like Rui, Katla, Mola, Kanchki, and Bali increased by Tk50-100 per kg in a week. Prices of fresh water and farmed cat fish Magur and Shing also increased by Tk20-50 per kg, according to the prices of different city kitchen markets.
Golsha and Tengra fish were sold at Tk 650-700 per kg, shrimp (medium) at Tk700-750, Tk1000-1200 (big), Pabda, Aair at Tk700-750 per kg on Friday.
"Prices has increased in the wholesale market, which forced us to hike the price," Rummon Ali, a fish retailer at Nowabganj Bazar in the city, said.
He said per palla (five kg) Kajoli fish cost Tk 3,000 at Swarighat wholesale, which was Tk 2500-2550 a week ago.
Asgar Ali (Monua), a fish trader at Swuarighat told the FE that most of the river fish come to this place from Mawa Ghat.
"Supply of fish has been reducing following decreasing trend of water in the rivers in this dry season. I don't see any possibility of price reduction before the monsoon," he said.
He also said that different sized Hilsa prices also increased slightly by Tk20-50 per piece last week.
He said prices of Pangash, Koi, Tilapia, Rui, Katla (farmed) were stable throughout the week.  
However, chicken meat (farm) increased by Tk5-10 per kg and was sold at Tk145-150 per kg on the day.
Imported onion price increased to Tk26-28 per kg, local variety at Tk24-25 per kg on the day---a Tk2-3 increase in a week.
Traders said import cost for onion has increased recently which caused the surge.
Newly harvested pointed gourd, snake gourd, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, ridge gourd and okra prices slightly reduced last week.
Per kg bitter gourd, snake gourd, pointed gourd was sold at Tk60, ridge, sponge gourds at Tk65-70, moringa (sajna) at Tk80-100 per kg.
Tomato, bean, brinjal, kohlrabi (olcopy), leaf vegetable, chilli, cauliflower prices increased by Tk5-10 per kg, per piece or at pr bunch.  
Other vegetable prices were stagnant on the day compared to that of last Friday.
Price of sugar increased by Tk2 per kg at retail and was sold at Tk45-46 per kg.
Prices of other major commodities including rice, meats (excluding chicken meat), milk, egg, salt, pulses, flour, spices, tea etc were stable this week comparing that of its previous.
