The country's apparel manufacturers have sought cooperation from the bankers in paying the wages and festival allowances to the readymade garment (RMG) workers before the Eid and Puja vacations.

The request was made in meeting held Thursday at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in the city.

"Despite difficulties, manufacturers are paying the wages for the month of September, overtimes and festival allowances by October 02 next," BGMEA President Md Atiqul Islam said.

He sought support from the commercial banks in this connection.

He expressed his hope that even though the sector is facing different challenges including decline in work orders, the scenario might change from November next.

The top executives of the banks assured the BGMEA leaders that they would assist the sector to overcome the crisis.

Chief executive officers (CEOs) and managing directors (MDs) of different commercial banks were present in the discussion meeting.
