Sales of refrigerators have marked a significant rise in different city markets ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, business insiders have said.
According to them, the demand for various kinds of refrigerators especially deep and no frost ones has increased two to threefold for preservation of meat of sacrificial animals.
During a visit to some key markets and shopping malls including Stadium market, Newmarket, Moghbazar, New Eskaton Road, Hatirpool and Elephant Road, many customers were seen buying refrigerators of different brands from outlets.
Md Sharif-Ullah, branch in-charge of Walton Elephant Road Branch, told the FE that sales of refrigerators have increased two to three times on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
"Usually, we sell three to four refrigerators every day, but on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, we have been selling seven to ten refrigerators daily in last 20 days,," he added.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, he said, Walton has introduced two new models of no frost refrigerators and their prices range from Tk 13,900 to Tk 60,000.
"Most of the customers now prefer deep and no frost freezes because such kinds of refrigerators are more suitable for preserving meat for a long time," Sharif-Ullah added.
Sangkar Das, the manager of Victor Electronics at Stadium Market, said sales of their refrigerators also increased three to four times.
He said as stadium market is one of the popular hubs for various kinds of refrigerators, sales might surge here. But due to Asian Football Confederation Under-16 Women's Championship Qualifiers, they have to close the outlets on the match day which impedes pace of their Eid sales.
"After the first week of August, we were selling eight to twelve refrigerators. But usually we sell three to four refrigerators a day. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, we expected to sell more fridges if we can open the outlets at all times," he added.
Anis Ur Rahman, Branch Manager of Samsung Electronics at Stadium market, told the FE that actually, Eid time is considered one of the peak sessions for selling refrigerators.
"Sales of our refrigerators have also increased, but we hope selling of refrigerators would go up sharply in the days ahead," he added.
He said prices of Samsung refrigerators range from Tk 44,900 to Tk 325,000. On the occasion of Eid, they also made mega and scratch card offers to draw the attention of customers.
Mohammad Riyad Hasan, a banker who was buying a refrigerator from Walton Elephant Road Branch, said he just bought it on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha as supplement to existing one to preserve meat.
"Actually, we have only one refrigerator which I think is not sufficient to take extra load of various kinds of food during Eid-ul-Azha," he added.
Fardous Ara Eva, a housewife who was buying a fridge from Samsung outlet at stadium market, said she is buying it on the occasion of Eid to preserve meat of their sacrificial animals.
"A standard-sized refrigerator is very much important on the occasion of Eid as different kinds of food need to be preserved," she added.
