SARSO holds meet

Director General of Bhutan Standards Bureau Phuntsho Wangdi presiding over the third meeting of the Governing Board of the South Asian Regional Standards Organisation (SARSO) in the city recently.


The third meeting of the Governing Board of South Asian Regional Standards Organisation (SARSO) was held in the city recently with Director General of Bhutan Standards Bureau Phuntsho Wangdi in the chair, said a press release.
SARSO, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Standards Body, has been established having its headquarters in Dhaka with a view to developing Saarc Regional Standards by removing technical barriers to trade and boosting intra-Saarc trade.
Among others, Director General of SARSO Dr Sayed Humayan Kabir and Director General of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Iqramul Haque were present at the meeting.
Officials of Saarc Secretariat and International Electrotechnical Commi-ssion were also percent at the meeting.
The meeting discussed the Standards Development work performed by different technical committees on the products which are commonly traded among the Saarc member states.
The meeting also reviewed the technical programme of standards, conformity assessment, metrology and accreditation implemented by the PTB, German under PTB-Saarc MoU.
Under the programme, the technical officials of the national Standard bodies of Saarc member states were imparted training on different technical areas related to national quality infrastructure.
The meeting also approved the estimated budget of SARSO for the year 2015 and the revised budget for the year 2014.
