Mr Md Rezaul Karim, proprietor of SN Jute International, Mr Mozibur Rahman Mridha, chairman of Multipoint Technology Ltd. and Mr Arzu Rahman Bhuiya, proprietor of Arzu Jute Traders, have been elected president, senior vice president and vice president of Shippers' Council of Bangladesh (SCB).
They were elected at the 32nd annual general meeting (AGM) of the Council held in the city Saturday, said a press release.
Chairman of the Council Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the AGM.
Other directors of the Council are: Mr Kamran Uddin, managing director of Global Jute Trading Ltd., Mr Ariful Ahsan, chairman of Silk Container Lines Ltd., Mr Abu Zafar Azad, proprietor of Everwin Chemicals, Mr AKM Aminul Mannan (Khokon), proprietor of East West Jute Trading Co., Mr Afsaruddin Sawpan, proprietor of Joty Enterprise, Mr Md Zahidul Islam, managing director of Jewel Jute Ltd., Mr Mohammad Maruf Hossain, managing director of Rainbow Jute Mills Ltd., and Mr SM Bakhtiar, chairman of Active Logistics.
The AGM reviewed, among other matters, country's trade, transport, shipping and port-related problems in the context of world foreign trade situation.
It reviewed the activities and performances of the Council during the last two years which include measures taken for enhancing its services to the shippers dealing with exports and imports.
The meeting also discussed its inter-action with Asian Shippers' Council (ASC) and Global Shippers' Forum (GSF).
The AGM confirmed the minutes of the last AGM, passed the Annual Report of the Board of Directors for 2013, the Audited Balance Sheet and Statement of Accounts for the year 2012-2013 and appointed Auditors for the year 2013-2014.
After the election, the new chairman conveyed his sincere thanks to the outgoing office-bearers and directors who worked hard for the last two years for smooth run of international trade and for representing the Council in all related national and international forum.
The new chair also urged all to extend their sincere cooperation and support to the Council.
