Selection of contractors for two sections of MRT soon

The Dhaka Metro rail project is ready to select contractors for two more segments of mass rapid transit line 6 (MRT-6) with the target to start the service by 2019.
Project office sources said bids for contract package numbers 2 and 7 were called from the short-listed contractors in May.
Four contractors, mostly Japanese, were prequalified for each of the two works recently.
"We are very much within the deadline to start 10 kilometres of the 20- kilometre MRT line," said project director Mofazzel Hossain.
He said the tender was called after the Dhaka Mass Transit Company board approved the tender documents of the two packages The Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development  project, being implemented under the Road  Transport and Bridges Ministry, has already awarded a contract to a Japanese company for developing land for the depot at Uttara.
It has invited bids from short-list companies for some other segments of the project, including the purchase of trains, equipment, development of depot and construction of half of the 20-kilometre route.
Sources said bid for the rest 10 km route will soon be called.
Official sources said the companies to be selected from the short-listed package numbers 2 and 7 will construct of all necessary structures along the MRT-6 from Uttara to Motijheel. 
These include construction of stations, office buildings, construction yards, setting up of railway track, electricity, telecommunication lines and signalling systems.
Officials said under package 7, contractors will be responsible for seven component works like rail track, telecommunication and electrification. 
Construction of different office buildings, stations etc will be carried under package 2.
