BELGRADE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua): Serbia agreed not to encourage exports to Russia by providing incentives in the light of the mutual sanctions between Russia and EU, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.
But he said that Serbia will continue to maintain its former attitude on not imposing sanctions against Russia either.
At a press conference held on Friday at the government building in occasion of the EU request that Serbia should not encourage export to Russia, Vucic said that the government agreed not to introduce any new incentives for those that export domestic products to Russia.
"We will not halt domestic production and exports but we also will not introduce any new subsidies either (for those that export domestic products to Russia). EU is our largest trade partner," he said adding that the value of Serbian export to the EU is nine times higher than export to Russia.
Vucic warned exporters not to dare repack and resell European goods to Russian market thus cheating on "both Russia and the EU".
"Serbia is on the path to EU membership, but we also hope that the EU will open chapters 32 and 35 by the end of the year, as it promised," Vucic stressed, reminding that Serbia did not take neither side in the Ukrainian conflict and is "striving for peace".
