Speaker for more women involvement in ICT

RANGPUR, Dec 9 (BSS): Involvement of more and more women in the information and communication technology (ICT) seen vital for building a science and knowledge-based society in the country.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury made the observation while addressing a reception as the chief guest organised for the freshers of Pirganj Mohila Degree College in Pirganj Upazila town today.
The Speaker put emphasis on enhancing opportunities for science and technology-oriented education for women, who have been contributing to every sphere of socio-economic, political and policy making activities.
The Speaker said Bangladesh would go much ahead if the women are enlightened through education to serve the nation following the ideals and philosophy of pioneer of the women renaissance Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain, who was born in Rangpur.
"The women have been contributing successfully to every sphere of the social, political, economic and national life with their representations in the Army, administration and police," she said.
The Speaker said the women are now Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition and Speaker in the Jatiya Sangshad, many of them are successful secretaries of the government. They are not remaining behind in any sector and 80 per cent workers in the garments industry are women.
She said 23 million students from class I to IX will get books free of costs from January 1 next and degree level female education will be free.
The Speaker also put emphasis on facilitating female education so that the female students could build themselves as worthy citizens and choose their own profession.
