Chicken meat, milk, chili prices increased as imported onion price witnessed a slight fall last week.
Few vegetable prices went down while other commodity prices remained static on Friday, traders said.
Chili prices remained almost stagnant for the last one month amid good supply form the growing hubs.
But the price of the essential item increased to Tk55-60 per kg, which was Tk35-40 last week, according to the prices of different kitchen markets in the city.
"The price of chili swelled to Tk 46-48 per kg at wholesale on Friday morning. The price was between Tk25 and Tk30 a week ago," Ratan Barui, a retailer at Companighat Bazar at Hazaribagh area said.
"Per maund (40 kg) chili cost us Tk1000-1050 last week, which rose to Tk1550-1600 on Thursday at Bogra and Rangpur," Ariful Islam, a wholesaler at Karwan Bazar in the city, said.
Chicken meat prices increased by Tk10-50 at per kg or per piece amid increasing demand in the restaurants following Boshonto Utshab (Spring Festival) and Valentine’s Day, which were observed on February 13 and 14 respectively.
Chicken (farm) meat was sold at Tk145-150 per kg---a Tk10 increase in a week.
Big sized Pakistani variety of chicken was sold at Tk300-320 per piece-Tk40-50 hike.
Local chicken variety was rare and a medium sized (850- 1000 gm) was sold at Tk350-400.
"The demand has increased significantly in restaurants and also in households following two festivals which caused the price hike," Sazzadur Rahman, a chicken retailer at Banalata Kancha Bazar, a kitchen market at Newmarket area said.
Mr Rahman said he brought 200 pieces of Pakistani variety from a farm at Bosila in the city in the morning of which only 15 were unsold till noon.
Prices of carrot, brinjal, cauliflower, bitter gourd prices reduced slightly on Friday---Tk2-3 per kg or per piece while other vegetable prices were static.
Imported onion price reduced to Tk18-22 per kg against Tk24-25 per kg last week while local variety remained stagnant and was sold at Tk24-25 per kg on the day.
Milk (pasteurised) prices increased by Tk3-4 per litre while powdered milk prices remained unchanged.
Prices of other major commodities including rice, fish, meats (excluding chicken meat), sugar, salt, pulses, flour, spices (excluding chili), tea etc were stable last week.
