RAJSHAHI, Oct 11 (BSS): American tech giant Starlink officially commenced its satellite-based high-speed internet operations in Bangladesh.
The company has leased one acre of land for 40 years within the Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park and has already completed the establishment of its ground station. As per the agreement, Starlink will pay two US dollars per square meter annually along with a service charge.
Bangladeshi firm Bondstine Technology Limited (BTL) is overseeing Starlink's infrastructure development and management.
BTL Managing Director and CEO Meer Shahrukh Islam said Starlink's ground station in Rajshahi would serve as a central hub to provide high-speed networking services across Bangladesh.
In addition to Rajshahi, Starlink has also established ground stations at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park and Jashore Hi-Tech Park to support its nationwide network operations.
Islam added that ten antennas had already been installed and another 30 would be set up soon. The company also plans to launch a robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) research centre at the Rajshahi park.
Meanwhile, the Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park is expected to create around 3,000 new jobs within the next six months, driven by increasing local and international investment. Situated along the scenic banks of the Padma River, the park has emerged as a hub of opportunity for the region's youth, promoting a shift toward technology-driven careers and entrepreneurship.
The 12-storey Silicon Tower, the centrepiece of the park, covers 84,661 square feet of space. Of this, 58,416 square feet have been allotted to 16 companies, while allocation for another 24,637 square feet is nearing completion. The remaining 9,576 square feet are under review for allotment.
