Steps taken to turn sugar mills profitable: Official

Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Azit Kumar Pal has said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adopted various steps for improving the lots of sugarcane farmers, reports BSS.

"Not only that, necessary measures have also been taken to modernise the sugar mills of the country so that the mills can be turned into profitable industries by producing adequate sugar", he said while addressing as the chief guest an exchange of views meeting with the sugarcane farmers and the employees of Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited (RSML) on Monday afternoon.

Managing Director of RSML Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme, held at the training complex auditorium of the sugar mill at Mahimaganj under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district.

Azit Kumar Pal, also an additional secretary, said no sugarcane farmers would be waited for their prices against their sugarcane further as an initiative had been taken to pay the prices of sugarcane to be supplied to the mills on priority basis. The chairman also urged all particularly the farmers to come forward with positive attitude to grow sugarcane on the mill zone areas abundantly in coming seasons aimed at developing and protecting the sugar industries.
