The parliamentary committee on the home ministry Wednesday urged the government to take steps so that no working-class people and other foreign-bound passengers are subjected to any harassment during immigration at the airports.
The standing committee made the recommendation in its 3rd meeting at the Parliament Secretariat with its chairman Tipu Munshi, reports UNB.
The meeting was informed by the home ministry that the process is on to repatriate the prime accused of Narayanganj seven-murder, Nur Hossain, from Kolkata.
The ministry also informed the standing committee that eviction of narcotic factories along the Bangladesh border with India and Myanmar is going on.
Besides, the process of creating 50,000 posts in the organogram of various units of the police continues as per the government's announcement.
The meeting reviewed the progress of implementing the decisions of the standing committee's previous meetings and also discussed the activities and existing problems of the Immigration and Passport Department.
The meeting was attended by the committee members - state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, Mozammel Hossain, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Abul Kalam Azad, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapan and Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury.
The home secretary and the IGP were, among others, present in the meeting.
