Strengthen economy through paying VAT, tax: Speakers

RANGPUR, Apr 15 (BSS) : Speakers at a seminar Wednesday called upon the businesspersons and commoners for spontaneously paying value added tax (VAT) and income tax in strengthening national economy to accelerate development.
They put special emphasis on inspiring all concerned in paying VAT and other taxes for conducting all development activities at own resources in building a middle income nation by 2021 as the country has been moving towards sustainable prosperity.
The district customs, excise and VAT department of Panchagarh organised the day-long seminar on "Value Added Tax and Supplementary Tax Act 2012: Inspiring Tax Payers" at Panchagarh government auditorium, in the sub-Himalayan district town.
Rangpur divisional commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Md Mujibur Rahman attended and addressed the seminar as the chief guest. Former vice-president of Panchagarh Chamber Abdul Hannan Sheikh attended the seminar as the special guest with its assistant commissioner for Panchagarh District Customs, Excise and VAT Department Majedul Haque in the chair.
Joint commissioner of the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate AKM Nurul Huda Azad delivered the keynote paper for inspiring the special tax payers to increase national revenue earning.
President of Panchagarh District Importers-Exporters Association Mehedi Hassan Khan Babla and president of Panchagarh District Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association Rezaul Karim Reza also addressed. High officials of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, leaders of Panchagarh Chamber and other business organisations, more than 300 VAT and tax payers, traders and businesspersons, journalists and local elite were present.
The chief guest asked the business leaders, civil society members and media workers for creating mass public awareness to enhance revenue earning in the forms of VAT and taxes to further strengthen the national economy.
