Swadhinata Bebshayee Parishad announces panel

Swadhinata Bebshayee Parishad announced Saturday a panel for the biennial election to the country's apex trade body -- the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) -- election to be held on May 23.
The panel is headed by current first vice-president Monowara Hakim Ali.
"We are announcing 16 candidates' panel from chambers now. We will announce another 16 candidates from association group within two or three days," Ms Monowara told reporters replying to question at a press conference at a city hotel.
Later, Dewan Sultan Ahmed, a member of Luxmipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, introduced the Parishad panel's 16 candidates from chambers for the biennial election (2015-17) of the apex trade body.
The Parishad's 16 members from chamber group are: Monowara Hakim Ali of Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abul Kashem Ahmed of Satkhira Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dewan Sultan Ahmed of Luxmipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal of Kushtia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Kohinoor Islam of Munshigaj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tabarul Tosaddek Hossain Khan Titu of Manikganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Masud of Sherpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hasin Ahmed Sylhet Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Aminul Bari of Joypurhat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Hasanuzzaman of Narail Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Masud Parvez Khan of Comilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tanzil Ahmed of Brahmanbaria Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Humayun Rashid Khan Pathan of Netrakona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Abdul Wahed Sarkar of Nilfamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anjuman Salahuddin of Barisal Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Reza Shah Farooq of Rangamati Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Addressing the programme, Ms Monowara said their panel will work for implementation of the Vision 2021 of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, boost economic growth, expand trade and business, increase local and foreign investments, create jobs and involve women in the mainstream economic development.
As per the long-cherished demand of the businesspeople and industrialists, Monowara said they will also sincerely try to bringing down the bank interest rate to a single digit.
She said they will also work for increasing investment in SME sector and making tax, VAT, export and import policies business-friendly and simple.
The Parishad panel leader also said they will try to restore the confidence of entrepreneurs by making capital market and other financial sectors more accountable.
If, elected, she said the panel will also work for infrastructural development of the district chambers.
Monowara also said initiatives will be taken so that women entrepreneurs can get bank loans with soft conditions and export items produced by them.
She said they will set up a modernised e-commerce centre along an up to date database in each district chamber office.
The election to the FBCCI executive body for 2015-2017 will be held on May 23, while the election to posts of president and two vice-presidents on May 25.
The Board of FBCCI will be formed with 52 directors, of which 32 directors would be elected in direct election while 20 directors to be nominated from the country's different chambers and associations.
In the primary voter list published on March 30, there are a total of 2,193 voters of which 430 are from 78 chambers while 1,763 from 355 associations.
