Take action against 'syndicate': BAIRA

FE REPORT
Leaders of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) on Saturday urged the interim government to take action against the 'syndicate’ in the overseas employment sector.
They emphasised that addressing this issue is crucial for boosting the country's foreign exchange reserves.
At the same time, they demanded that those involved in corruption and irregularities in this sector should be brought to book.
The recruiters placed the demands at a press conference held at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity.
Acting president of the association Reaz-ul-Islam said, "The main players of BAIRA syndicates are Ruhul Amin Swapan, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, Nizam Hazari, Benjir Ahmed, Mohiuddin Mahi and Kazi Mofizur Rahman."
He levelled allegations of money laundering and widespread irregularities against them.
Reaz said, "Due to their syndicate, the labour market sector has been suffering a lot. Sending workers to Malaysia has been stopped because of their syndicate and corruption."
"It is because of the vested quarter, the Malaysian market is being closed again and again."
"Because of them, workers could not go to Malaysia despite a demand for 50,000 workers," he added.
As many as 17,000 workers completed the Bureau of Manpower Employment Training clearance process against this demand, he mentioned.
Regarding the return of money to those workers who could not go to Malaysia, he said the money of the victims should be returned.
