Talks with leading global port operator underway on NCT lease out

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14: Discussions are currently underway with a private port operator that complies with international standards for the lease of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), as the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) looks to lease out this important container terminal.
The leading global port operator DP World has been engaged in discussions regarding the operation of the terminal.
A delegation from DP World, led by Rizwan Soomer, the company's Chief Executive Officer for the subcontinent, visited Bangladesh to engage in discussions with high-ranking government officials regarding the proposal.
The government has planned to lease out the terminal to foreign operators to foster competition among terminal operators and ensure international-standard services for port users.
Recently the government leased out the PCT to Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). In a recent decision, approved by the cabinet body, the NCT will be operated by a leading global port operator.
This decision was made during a meeting on March 23, 2023, by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Bangladesh's Finance Minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal.
