All high-tech and software technology parks as well as their affiliated ICT facilities across the country will be named after their respective districts and locations shedding the present titles.
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Division of the government made the decision at a meeting of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority on Wednesday.
ICT Adviser Md Nahid Islam presided over the meeting held at the ICT Tower in the capital's Agargaon administrative area, according to a statement.
All hi-tech parks, software technology parks and IT training and incubation centres will get new names as the current ones are mostly linked with the family members of Sheikh Hasina, the recently ousted premier.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Nahid said a litany of complaints surfaced involving the allotment and cancellation of plots on hi-tech park sites.
It is, therefore, necessary to review whether there was any case of irregularities or corruption, according to him.
"We have not received optimum results in proportion with the objective of establishing nationwide hi-tech parks," said Mr Nahid.
He recognised the need to review the extent of political interventions, corruption or lack of capacity. "Identifying these issues will make it easier to work on in coming days."
The ICT adviser suggested carrying out studies and surveys, and following the methodologies of successful countries abroad.
Responding to other attendees' suggestion to name some facilities of the hi-tech parks after Abu Sayeed and Mughdho who embraced martyrdom in the recent student-mass movement, he said there was no need to make haste like the Awami League government.
"The memories of the martyrs of the movement will be preserved in such a way that they last for long," continued Mr Nahid.
The meeting also discussed issues like the commissioning of a new property management company to supervise the software tech park in Jashore, renovation of Janata Tower and facilitating loans for hi-tech park investors.
