Thai business leader praises B\\\'desh location

CHTTAGONG, Feb 4: Thai business delegation leader Chokedee Kaewsang said on Tuesday Bangladesh, located between Asia's giant markets of India and China, is one of the most attractive investment destinations.

Mr Kaewsang said the country has the potential to attract foreign investments, thanks to its considerable human resources and cheap labour.

His comments came at an exchange of views meeting with the directors of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the CCCI auditorium.

A 21-member commercial delegation of Investment Mission from Thailand BOI and Thai-Bangladesh Business Council held the meeting, chaired by CCCI president Mahbubul Alam.

Thai honourary consul Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, trade advisor Jashim U Ahmed, senior vice president of CCCI Nurun Newaz Selim, vice president Syed Jamal Ahmed, directors Syed Sagir Ahmed, Zahirul Islam Chowdhury, AKM Akhtar Hossain, Mahbubul Huq Chowdhury Babar, Md Zahirul Islam and different trade body leaders were present.

Welcoming the Thai delegation leaders, the CCCI president said encouraged by planned special economic zones and their necessary utility facilities in Chittagong, many countries including Japan, Taiwan, China, UAE, Saudi Arabia and the EU (European Union) countries have shown interest to invest directly or under joint venture. He urged the Thai investors to invest in Chittagong.

He said that the World Trade Centre constructed by the CCCI has started setting up display centres of different exportable goods to attract investment from the foreign buyers.

Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury said both Bangladesh and Thailand have exchanged trade delegations but the bilateral trade is yet to grow up to its expected level.

He requested Thai entrepreneurs to invest in potential sectors like frozen foods and plastic industry in Chittagong.

Chamber directors Mahfuzul Hoque Shah and Md Sirajul Islam, Mahmudul Hasan of Frozen Foods Association, and Ataul Karim Chowdhury of Ocean International Ltd and members of the visiting trade delegation participated in the open discussion.
