A four-day Thai trade fair styled as 'Thailand Week 2018' will begin in the city on April 23, aiming to strengthen the trade relations with Bangladesh.
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, Royal Thai Government, and the Royal Thai Embassy have jointly organised the 17th annual fair to be held at Sonargaon Hotel.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to be present at the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
Some 45 Thai companies and27 Bangladeshi organisations will take part in the trade show, said Suebesak Dangboonrueng, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of Royal Thai Embassy, at a press briefing on Thursday.
The event is part of efforts of the Royal Thai Government to build up relations, especially in trade, between the peoples of Bangladesh and Thailand, he said.
Presently, Thailand imports $61 million worth of products from Bangladesh while Bangladesh imports $120 million products from Thailand, said the Thai embassy official.
He also said the living cost in Thailand is cheaper than in Bangladesh.
Auto parts, industrial equipment and hardware, tropical fresh fruit, food and beverage, housewares, tropical fresh fruits, gift and decorative items, stationery, baby products, garments, jewellery, footwear, health and beauty products will be showcased at the fair.
During the fair, Thai artistes will present cultural show, fashion show and live music daily. The fair will remain open from 11:00am to 9:00pm everyday.
