Three-day dev fair kicks off on Jan 11

A three-day development fair will begin across the country on January 11 aiming to showcase the government's success in development and involve the common people in its development activities, officials said.

The fair titled 'Development Fair-2018' will be organised in each district and upazila simultaneously. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the event through videoconferencing.

The fair will highlight different development and ongoing activities taken by the government as well as government's success stories before the countrymen.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has already asked the district and upazila administration to make the fair a success.

The cabinet division has also asked the ministries concerned to allocate required money to the local administration and ensure monitoring and coordination for making the event successful.

Different banks, insurance companies, government and non-governmental organisations and financial institutions will take part in the fair that will continue till January 13.

Seminar, screening of documentary films, display of photographs and posters and holding of cultural programmes will also be arranged.

The government's various development moves, including electricity to every household, one house one farm, women empowerment, houses for all, education aid, digital Bangladesh, environment protection, investment growth, social safety net and community clinic will be highlighted in the fair.

The fair will play an important role in encouraging the current government's future plans and achieving the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a cabinet division source.

It will also identify local problems and their implementation ideas through discussions among public representatives, political leaders, government officials and people, the source said.

The fair will be dedicated to the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
