CHITTAGONG, Nov 9: A three-day Information Technology (IT) fair will begin at the World Trade Centre in the port city on Saturday.

As many as 26 IT firms from home and abroad will participate in the fair jointly organised by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Society of Chittagong IT Professionals (SCITP), said the organisers at a press briefing on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, CCCI president Mahbubul Alam urged the government to establish a technology hub in the port city by exploiting its potentials, as the country's biggest export processing zone, three major economic zones and major industrial zones are located in Chittagong.

He said the IT is an indispensable part of livelihood in the modern world. There is no alternative to developing IT and tech-based industries in order to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

He also said the CCCI is working to help build the Chittagong Tech Hub and the three-day IT fair is part of that initiative. The CCCI is also working to organise sector-based fairs in the near future at the WTC.

Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Md Abdul Mannan will inaugurate the fair, which will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm daily. Gold sponsors like Nokia and Smart Technology (BD) will have stalls in the fair.

CCCI vice-president and convener of the Committee on Chittagong IT Fair (CTGITF 2017) Syed Jamal Ahmed also spoke. CCCI director Anjan Shekhor Das and former director Mahfuzul Haque Shah were present.
