Three mobile operators rope in 1.16m subscribers in Aug

The mobile subscriber base in Bangladesh continues to grow, as network operators in the country roped in a total of about 1.16 million customers in August, registering a big monthly jump.

The number of mobile internet subscribers also increased by 1 million in the same month, according to the latest data released by Bangladesh telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

The overall number of SIM subscribers reached 188.64 million in August, up 187.48 million from a month earlier, according to the data.

The growth was shared by Grameenphone, Robi Axiata and Banglalink while state-run Teletalk ended up losing some customers.

The subscriber base of GP, the country's largest network operator, added about 2,50,000 customers in August to hit 82.14 millions.

However, the second largest operator, Robi, acquired the highest number of subscribers in August, adding more than half a million. The number subscribers of Robi reached 57.33 million.

Customers of Banglalink, the third largest operator, rose by about 4,23,000 in August to take its total to 42.72 million.

The state-owned Teletalk lost around 20,000 customers during the period.

The total number of internet users hit 131.94 million, including ISP and PSTN users.
