Thrust on boosting BD-Czech trade

Speakers at a programme on Tuesday laid emphasis on increasing bilateral trade between Bangladesh and the Czech Republic.
They said that businesses from the two countries could collaborate in the sectors like energy, power, information technology and heavy industries for achieving respective economic goals.
They also said Czech could help Bangladesh in conducting high-tech research, innovation, and transfer knowledge in line with the transformation from the third industrial revolution to fourth.
The views came at 'Czech-Bangladesh Business Forum' organised at a city hotel by Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi and its honorary consulate in Dhaka.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Bangladesh Milan Hovorka, Honorary Consul of Czech Republic in Dhaka Mohiuddin Monem, and the president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Sheikh Fazle Fahim spoke on the occasion among others.
Ambassador Milan Hovorka said Czech is a young country but an old nation with rich history which is very supportive to Bangladesh as well.
Terming Bangladesh's economic growth 'robust' and 'sustainable', he said his country could provide technical support in the various fields for Bangladesh's development.
The Ambassador also laid emphasis on increasing bilateral relation in terms of trade, investment, research and people-to-people contact.
Mr Mohiuddin Monem said both Bangladesh and the Czech Republic have been making a remarkable economic growth in the recent years.
He sought the European nations support for achieving Bangladesh's economic goal to become a developed country.
Sheikh Fazle Fahim said Czech is an important buyer of Bangladesh's apparel industry. The European nation can also explore other Bangladeshi sectors like footwear, pharmaceuticals and frozen food.
He also mentioned about the initiatives taken by Bangladesh government to attract foreign investments.
The chief of country's apex trade body urged the visiting business delegation from Czech to support Bangladesh through knowledge transfer in hi-tech research.
