Exploring new areas of business have been seen vital for the betterment of the Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs.
Founder President of BWCCI Selima Ahmad made the observation while delivering her opening remarks at a project orientation organised by Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) in the city on Wednesday, said a press release.
The orientation was organised under 'Socio-economic empowerment of women through promotion of natural fiber-based products from agricultural wastages' project under INSPIRED programme funded by European Union and contracted by Ministry of Industries.
Selima Ahmad said the growing involvement of women in entrepreneurial activities in the last few decades has added a new dimension in the socio-economic structure of Bangladesh.
And today, women entrepreneurs are directly contributing to our national economy, she added.
She said BWCCI has undertaken a new initiative to promote natural fiber specifically banana and pineapple fiber as well as natural fiber-based products from agricultural wastages which is a vast potential sector in Bangladesh but less explored.
The BWCCI has taken this challenge to create more enterprises based on natural fiber and create more employments in the country, she added
The project orientation was conducted by Project Coordinator of INSPIRED project of BWCCI Syed Sultan Chand and Assistant Project Coordinator Najrul Islam.
Among others, Grant Scheme Expert of Bangladesh INSPIRED Ms Anne Raine, Team Leader of component 3 of INSPIRED Ali Sabet, Acting CEO of BWCCI Md Mojibur Rahaman and Director of BURO Bangladesh Sirajul Islam were present at the orientation.
Acting CEO of BWCCI Mojibur Rahaman and Director of BURO Bangladesh Sirajul Islam gave a brief overview of their respective organisations at the orientation.
Project Coordinator Syed Sultan Chand and Assistant Project Coordinator of INSPIRED project of BWCCI Najrul Islam gave an overview of the project's mission, vision, objectives and activities with the participants.
BWCCI is implementing the project in four areas of the country-Narshingdi, Gaibandha and Tangail districts and Modhupur sub-district.
The project aims at alleviation of poverty and empowering women in SME clusters by exploring new sources of Natural Fibers (NF) through efficient management of agricultural wastages of the country.
