Thrust on learning the best use of tech

Experts at NSU webinar urge to jointly move forward to solve coronavirus, other challenges ahead of 4IR

IT experts and professionals at a webinar have suggested learning the best use of technology to keep pace with technological advancement ahead of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).

They also urged to move forward by solving all the existing challenges unitedly, including the COVID-19 pandemic, to achieve the goal of Digital Bangladesh.

They made the call at the webinar, styled 'Digital Bangladesh: Technology for COVID-19 Response', organised by North South University (NSU) in collaboration with Centre for Infrastructure Research and Services (CISR) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the NSU in the city on Tuesday evening.

M A Kashem, Chairman, Board of Trustees, North South University, was present as the distinguished guest while Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the university, chaired the programme.

Eminent personalities, including experts in information technology (IT), academics and professionals, joined the event and spoke.

Addressing the event, M A Kashem said, "Problems come one after another. We have to move forward by solving all these problems. We will be able to reach our goal only if everyone comes forward to fulfil their duties honestly to solve these problems."

He said the 4IR will come during this time. "We have to learn the best use of technology to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution," he added.

Prof. Atiqul Islam said about 1.5 billion students in the world have been affected by the novel coronavirus disrupting their normal lives. All the universities around the globe are going online for virtually taking classes, he mentioned.

The NSU is successfully taking more than 3,000 classes online per week and attendance at these online classes is 93 per cent which is higher than usual, he said.

During this time, he announced that they have launched modern software for taking exams online and proctoring which will play a key role in tackling the current crisis.

Prof. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Director, Centre for Infrastructure Research and Services, Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Bari, Chair, Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering also joined the webinar.
