Experts at seminar on Sunday stressed the need for taking time-befitting work plans and implementing those to harness the potential of light engineering industry in the country, reports UNB.
If more investment is made in this industry, modern technologies are introduced and entrepreneurs are trained well, this sector would contribute to economy significantly, they said.
The Bangladesh Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) organised the seminar titled 'Sustainable Growth by Manufacturing Engineering' at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
In Bangladesh, the total investment in the light engineering sector is only US$15 billion against the demand for $7.0 trillion light engineering products in the global market, said the experts.
It is possible to manufacture world-class products through introduction of Computerised Numerical Control (CNC) replacing the present analogue system, they said.
Presenting the keynote paper, BITAC Tool Institute Project Director Dr Syed Md Ehsanul Karim said the demand for light engineering products in global market is very high and Bangladesh has the potential to grab a share of the market.
Addressing the seminar as the chief guest, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the government will provide all necessary supports for the development of light engineering industries.
BITAC Director General Dr Md Mofizur Rahman chaired the seminar. Additional secretary of the industries ministry Md Enamul Haq attended the programme as the special guest.
