Time for foreign industries' relocation to BD: Humayun

The ministry of industries (MoI) decided on Thursday to gearing up the ongoing projects' work at the grass-roots level by intensifying the activities of its monitoring teams.
Earlier, the MoI had formed seven monitoring teams to oversee the overall activities of project work at the grass- roots level.
A high official of the MoI told the FE on Thursday that a virtual meeting at the ministry yesterday also directed the teams to submit their reports to monthly annual development projects review meeting on the projects development activities at the grass-roots level.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at the meeting said that an opportunity has been created for relocation of foreign industries in Bangladesh in post-pandemic situation.
He directed the ministry officials to provide one stop service facilities and simplify other rules for foreign investors to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country.
He suggested gearing up the country's economic activities by allocating plots to small entrepreneurs at Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC)'s industrial estates and foreign investors unused lands on the premises of government-owned sugar mills.
State minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder suggested forming an audit team to assess the financial ability of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC).
Industries secretary K M Ali Azam presided over the meeting where the directors of different projects of the ministry were also virtually connected with the event.
The meeting also reviewed the development activities of the projects works taken by the ministry under its annual development programmes (ADP).
